Millions of American Bison (which we usually refer to) were on the buffalo in anticipation of European settlers, who traveled in America's Great Plains in the early 1800s. But among these settlers were trappers and traders, who thrived in the uncontrolled sale of meat and hides. And they were not the only ones killing off the American bison. Train companies a business out of providing tourists the chance to shoot buffalo from the windows of their buses. These contactorsslaughtered countless bison, load only one break to go out on the ammunition. The bodies of these animals only at the level of the left. They even had buffalo shooting competitions. It is said that a person is a record by killing 120 bison in just 40 minutes. (Do the math - that is 3 per minute!) "Buffalo Bill Cody is reported to have killed more than 4,000 buffalo in just two years ago. What a great contrast, as it had received with the Indians, for centuries, this greatResource by hunting only for food and the use of the whole animal.
However, there is good news. Is through the efforts of many responsible Americans, the American Buffalo again. When I was a boy visiting my grandparents in South Dakota, I enjoyed driving through the plains and see hundreds of these majestic animals. I also remember my parents eating a buffalo dinner at the restaurant at Mount Rushmore. (I had chicken or something - the idea of eating buffalo seemed too strangeto me!)
